I woke up at 4 a.m. to catch my flight out of JFK and am exhausted but excited.
After catching a shuttle with other UNITY attendees, I got a quick peek of the convention center at the Mandalay Bay.
Heather Schultz and I attended the Visuals>Words Workshop sponsored by The New York Times. Aron Pilhofer, an interactive news editor, explained how basic data could be transformed into eye-popping charts. He also led a brainstorming session on different ways to present data online.
Andrew DeVigal, a multimedia editor, expanded the discussion on multimedia within journalism. He described unique ways of integrating sound, images and videos to enhance print.
A lasting quote I remember from the lecture was the Indian saying: “Tell me I’ll forget. Show me I might remember. Involve me, and I’ll understand.”
I look forward to learning more while I’m here this week.
