#AAJA23

AAJA’s 2023 convention was held in our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., under the banner of “Building our collective power.” Nearly 1,600 attendees and more than 60 media and other partners gathered for the sold-out convention.

CONVENTION TESTIMONIALS

“Attending AAJA 2022 reaffirmed the work I am doing as a public radio journalist in the Midwest is valuable. As the only Asian American in my newsroom, it is sometimes hard to know whether I am making a difference. After listening into the #VeryAsian panel, I found my situation to mirror many of my Asian American peers also working in predominantly white newsrooms in the Midwest. I found that after attending AAJA 2022, I was more empowered to challenge myself in my storytelling and more motivated to continue to elevate and amplify APIDA voices.”

"This was my first AAJA convention and, while I am not a journalist, I found the sessions extremely thought provoking and informational. I was impressed by the quality of the presenters and the diversity of topics.”

“The AAJA community is so wonderful and made me feel so welcome. As a recent immigrant to the US, it made me feel like a part of the community. I hope to be back next year as a volunteer. I get so emotional seeing the warmth given to me by the journalism community here - it’s a welcome change from the fear journalists have back in my home country because of an increasingly authoritarian government.”
