NYC Holds Vigils And Raises Funds For Arts Journalist Randy Gener

On Jan. 17, Randy Gener, theater journalist as well as AAJA member and volunteer, was reportedly assaulted in midtown and left around 7th Avenue between 54th and 55th Street in Manhattan, according to BroadwayWorld.

He suffered severe injuries to his head and had to undergo brain surgery. He currently recovering in the Neuro ICU.

And for anyone who would like to show their support, there are a number of ways you can do that.

1) On Sunday (Jan. 26), there will be a candlelight vigil at 6 p.m. starting at the corner of 53rd Street and 7th Avenue. “Bring your own candles, bundle up, and be prepared to march a few blocks.”

2) On Monday (Jan. 27), the Fil-Am Press Club of NY and the Philippines Consulate General will be hosting a prayer rally at 7 p.m. in the Philippines Center (556 5th Avenue).

3) Singer,actor and producer Liz Casasola and Nicole Ponseca, owner of Maharlika and Jeepney, as well as other members of the Filipino community have started a fund via YouCaring to raise money for Gener’s medical bills. If you want to donate, click here.
