Rob Scharr is a 2012 Political Science PhD candidate at the University of Florida. He also has earned an MS in Technical Communication from the University of Washington, and a BA in Japanese from the University of Florida. He has lived in Japan for three years and is highly proficient in Japanese and Mandarin Chinese. What brings him to AAJA is his interest and experience with Asian American issues, Rob has taught courses in Asian American studies and is writing his dissertation on the topic of immigration, specifically the relationship between congressional polarization and the laws that expand or restrict immigration. He aims to be a foreign policy analyst for a major news organization.
