Although the 33rd CAPA Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Festival was held on Saturday, May 12th at the Dumbo Archway in Brooklyn instead of its usual Union Square location, attendees still piled in to enjoy free performances and food and learn about local-based Asian American businesses and nonprofit organizations. Maria Sandoval, Shirley Lew, Chris Chiang and Heather Schultz held down the AAJA-NY booth, educating potential members about the organization. Broadcast journalist Bea Hundal, NY1 News reporter CeFaan Kim and SNY anchor/reporter Michelle Yu helped emcee the event.

Filmmaker Jennifer Takaki informed attendees about her upcoming documentary, Photograph Justice: The Corky Lee Story on veteran photographer and AAJA member Corky Lee. Ed Lin, managing editor at Barrons.com and writer, signed copies of his new mystery book, One Red Bastard. Michelle Yu and co-author Blossom Kahn also signed copies of their books, Young, Restless & Broke and China Dolls. Award-winning photographer Karen Zhou shared her impressive portfolio and sold prints of her best work.
