Asian American Journalists Association Honors Henry Fuhrmann with the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Award

The Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) is honored to award Henry Fuhrmann, long-time Los Angeles Times copy editor and AAJA member, with the 2023 AAJA Lifetime Achievement Award for his lifelong dedication to excellence in journalism, his leadership through humble service, his generous mentorship of future generations, and commitment to AAJA.

Henry’s guidance and voice have shaped the careers and lives of countless people in the AAJA family over three decades, and he has been the stalwart of our organization.

AAJA is deeply grateful for Henry’s lifelong commitment to AAJA’s mission, and to the pursuit of increased, fair and comprehensive coverage of the AAPI community. So many in the AAJA family are indebted to Henry and the example he set for us to follow in and outside of the newsroom.

Henry died on Sept. 14 after a sudden and brief illness. He was 65. The AAJA Board of Directors notified his family of the award on Sept. 14, in the hope of honoring him while he was still with us. Unfortunately, we learned shortly thereafter of his passing. AAJA will posthumously honor his career, life and this Lifetime Achievement Award at the AAJA 2023 convention in Washington, D.C.

We will miss Henry’s warmth, kindness and most of all, his friendship.
